Absences, makeup policies, and makeup lesson credit

NO tuition credit or refund will be provided for missed lessons.
Makeup lesson credits will be issued when a lesson is cancelled with at least 24-hour advance notice by emailing info@mirallesmusic.com, or by requesting a cancellation online through our portal.
If a student cancels with at least 24-hour notice, a makeup can be scheduled in an open time slot through the Miralles Music scheduling portal or by contacting the Miralles Music admin.
Cancellations made with less than 24-hour notice will not qualify for a makeup lesson credit (this includes being sick the day of a scheduled lesson) and an online lesson alternative will be offered on condition of an acceptable absence.
Makeup lesson credits expire 30 days after membership ends. They can be used to schedule makeup lessons online or by emailing info@mirallesmusic.com, at any time with your teacher or any other Miralles Music teacher (subject to availability).
No more than one (1) makeup lesson credits can be pending at any time per membership.
If there is no in-person makeup time slot available, your teacher will schedule a virtual zoom lesson or upload a pre-recorded curated lesson and practice plan to your student profile. (Curated lessons include video lessons, music files, courses, helpful links and other assignments and are considered a makeup lesson)
If there are no makeup times available with your teacher, you will either receive a video lesson or you have the option to schedule with another Miralles Music teacher.
Makeup credits have no cash value and cannot be used past the expiration of a lesson membership.
Makeup lessons cannot be rescheduled.

Monthly Tuition

Tuition is a flat monthly fee. Most months have four (4) or five (5) lessons, and on rare occasions, three (3) lessons when in observance of major national holidays.
Membership guarantees a regular weekly lesson time with your teacher.
Tuition payments are billed monthly 7 days in advance prior to the 1st of the following month, and are due by the 25th of the current month. On that billing date, membership tuition is billed automatically to your debit or credit card.
Debit/credit card payment instantly reserves enrolment, otherwise your space is not reserved until payment is received.
A $15 late fee will be charged for payments received after the 7th of each month.
Lesson spots may be forfeited if tuition is over 2 weeks late. Since All payments are automated, lateness occurs when a payment is declined. Notification of a declined payment will be sent and billing information must be updated promptly through our online Opus1 web portal.
No refunds, credits, or discounts will be given once tuition is paid.
Students are responsible for additional costs associated with education materials, music books, instrument rentals, accessories, etc.

Attendance & Lateness

Students are expected to be punctual to their weekly lessons.
Students who are late for a lesson cannot be guaranteed their full lesson time.
Students more than 5 minutes late for their lesson will not get the full allotted lesson time. Since lessons are scheduled back-to-back, lessons will end at the time the next student’s lesson is scheduled to begin.
If your lesson starts late because the instructor’s schedule is running behind, you WILL receive your full lesson or a makeup credit.

Membership Cancellation

Membership may be cancelled by the 15th day of the month by submitting our online cancellation form.
Cancellation will be effective as of the month next tuition is due. You may withdraw the cancellation at any time before it takes effect, but your teacher and/or time slot can not be guaranteed.
Active membership is mandatory to participate in our events and recitals.
All makeup absence passes on your account expire after 30 days from cancellation effective date.
Membership is not transferable.
Miralles Music Academy does not provide tuition refund under any circumstances.
Miralles Music Academy reserves the right to terminate membership, in which case prorated tuition will be refunded.
No refund or credit will be given for any cancellations part way through a term for all group lessons at Miralles Music Academy.
If, in exceptional circumstances, MMA (Miralles Music Academy) has to cancel the student's lesson due to damage of MMA property or harassment of MMA staff by the student, this may be done with no notice.

Full Year Calendar

Thanksgiving Holiday: October 13, 2025
Christmas Break: December 22, 2025- January 3, 2026
Teacher’s Convention: February 23, 2026 - February 27, 2026
Spring Break: April 3, 2026 - April 10, 2026
Happy Canada Week: June 30 - July 2, 2026
We use a flat-rate monthly tuition model, for total of 42 lesson weeks per year (which includes recital weeks, which have group rehearsal and a recital instead of regular lessons
Studio recitals week will also be considered as your lesson weeks
All students will receive the SAME amount of lesson weeks each year, however, the lesson weeks per month will vary depending on Holiday Calendar. Lesson tuition is a Flat Rate each month regardless of how many lesson weeks are received in one particular month. The calendar for 2023-2024 is set that every student will receive 42 lesson weeks this year. (Please see chart below for lesson week breakdown.)

Membership Hold/Summer Hold

If the student is absent for several weeks or months, we charge 1/3 per week out. Here are more details of our costs below:

30 Minute Membership = $10.00/Week
45 Minute Membership = $15.00/Week
60 Minute Membership = $20.00/Week

We require at least one week's notice for it to be processed by our financial team. We will refund the difference if you are already billed for the current month. In addition, please inform us of the student's return date.

If the student leaves for the summer months (July & August), we require a pre-payment of 1/2 of September month to secure his/her spot. The deadline is by July 29 of every calendar year. There will be no refunds for Pre-Payments.

SUBSTITUTIONS

You may decide to change Instructor or instrument at any time. Just call (587) 855-0809 or email info@mirallesmusic.com and we will work with you to make arrangements as soon as a switch is available.
If your current Instructor is unable to teach a lesson, a substitute Instructor will be arranged.
If a substitute cannot be arranged, an Instructor absence credit will be issued to your account (Instructor absence credits do not expire and do not count towards the subscription credit limit).
Regular class/lesson cancellation policy applies for classes/lessons with substitute Instructor. No MISSED LESSON MAKE-UP CREDIT are issued for last minute substitutions.
If your regular Instructor becomes unavailable, you will be provided a new Instructor with a similar teaching style, or the opportunity to try and choose a new Instructor.

LESSON POLICIES

Tuition is a flat monthly fee. The monthly tuition amount is averaged out over the year allowing for holidays and breaks. Most months have four (4) or five (5) classes/lessons, and on occasion, fewer. We follow the Fort McMurray Public School Division Calendar for major breaks such as Fall Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, etc. The averaged tuition makes it easier for you to know that your account will be charged the exact same amount each month.
Class/Lesson spots may be forfeited if tuition is over 2 weeks late. Since all payments are automated, lateness occurs when a payment is declined. Notification of a declined payment will be sent and billing information must be updated promptly through the Parent/Student Portal on our website.
MMA Instructors CANNOT accept payments in any form. Upon enrollment a student or guardian/caregiver will be set up with a Parent/Student Portal login. All session fee invoices, payments and lesson details are accessible there.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL, TEXT or EMAIL YOUR TEACHER - Miralles Music administration must have a record of a cancellation for you to receive a MISSED LESSON MAKE-UP CREDIT.
