Hello music lovers! My name is Oona Garthwaite, I teach voice, piano and guitar.
I have been singing and playing music with my family for as long as I can remember. I started by singing and playing piano, and picked up guitar in college, while I was studying in Spain. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies.
I have written and recorded nearly a hundred songs, and heard my music featured on shows like So You Think You Can Dance and in movies like Batkid Begins. My music even traveled to the Olympics, when a Canadian synchronized swimming duo performed to a medley of my songs in Rio in 2016.
I have performed with my band at all kinds of cool venues, including The Fox in Oakland and The Fillmore in San Francisco. I have taught music one-on-one to students of all ages, with a focus on music theory for beginners; in classrooms at Saints Peter and Paul School in SF; and intensive workshops and band settings at Bay Area Girls Rock Camp. I believe our curiosity is the most powerful tool that we have! When I’m not making music, you can find me gardening, writing stories, and learning how to do those things better.
