Miralles Music Academy – Policy Summary
Tuition & Membership
Tuition is a flat monthly fee and guarantees a regular weekly lesson spot.
Payments are automatically charged on the 25th of the month for the following month.
A $15 late fee applies when payment is more than 10 days late.
Lesson spots may be forfeited if payment is more than 2 weeks overdue.
Tuition payments are generally non-refundable and non-transferable.
Students are responsible for books, music, materials, rentals, and other additional costs.
Attendance & Lateness
Students should arrive on time.
Arriving more than 5 minutes late means the lesson may be shortened.
If the teacher is running late, the student will still receive the full lesson or a makeup credit.
Missed Lessons & Makeups
Missed lessons do not qualify for refunds or tuition credits.
A makeup credit is available when at least 24 hours' notice is provided.
Cancellations must be reported to MMA Administration, not directly to the teacher.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice generally do not qualify for a makeup, although an online lesson alternative may be offered for acceptable absences.
Only one makeup credit may be pending at a time.
Makeup credits expire 30 days after membership ends and have no monetary value.
Makeup lessons depend on teacher/time-slot availability and cannot be rescheduled.
Emergencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Membership Holds
Students taking extended absences can place their membership on hold:
30-minute lesson: $10/week
45-minute lesson: $15/week
60-minute lesson: $20/week
At least one week's notice is required.
The student's expected return date should be provided.
Summer Hold
Students away for July and August must pay a $100 September pre-payment to secure their spot.
Deadline: July 29.
Pre-payments are non-refundable.
Cancellation
Membership cancellation must be submitted by the 15th of the month to take effect the following month.
Active membership is required to participate in recitals and events.
Makeup credits expire 30 days after cancellation becomes effective.
No refunds or credits are provided for cancellations during a term.
Annual Calendar
MMA uses a flat-rate model covering 43 lesson weeks per year.
The number of lessons varies by month due to holidays and breaks, but tuition remains the same each month.
Recital weeks count toward the annual lesson total.
August lessons are optional and not included in the 43-week annual calendar.
Teacher Substitutions
Students may request a change of teacher or instrument.
If a teacher is unavailable, MMA will arrange a substitute when possible.
If no substitute is available, an Instructor Absence Credit will be provided.
If a regular teacher becomes permanently unavailable, MMA will provide another instructor or allow the student to choose a new one.
Parent/Student Portal & Payments
Instructors do not accept payments directly.
Payments, invoices, lesson information, and account details are handled through the Parent/Student Portal.
Parents should contact MMA Administration regarding cancellations and billing.
CCTV
CCTV cameras operate throughout the Academy 24/7 for the safety and security of students, parents, and staff.
VoiceNotes / Lesson Recordings
Teachers may use VoiceNotes to record short audio summaries, feedback, practice reminders, and demonstrations.
Recordings are used for educational purposes only and stored securely.
If an AI service outside Canada is used, parents will be informed before consent is obtained.
Recordings are permanently deleted after the AI-generated summaries are completed.
Recordings are handled in accordance with Alberta's PIPA privacy requirements and will not be publicly shared without written consent.
